Music can transport you to a time, a place or even a feeling, where special lyrics or a familiar melody sing in your mind and in your heart. Broadcaster, storyteller, journalist and music curator Kerry Martin, explores the magic of music in building new memories, and retrieving long buried ones. He will also dig deeper into the abilities music has to connect people of all ages, background and health status, as well as improve your health overall. You will be warmed by Kerry’s own powerful stories, and insights and yes, there will be plenty of music. You may even find yourself toe-tapping along.
About Kerry:
Kerry Martin is a music journalist with an impressive background. For the last ten years, he has worked as a music columnist for CBC Radio One (2 years), hosted a 5-part music series for CBC Radio One Canada over the month of August/2017 on music’s ability to move us both emotionally and physically, and has worked as a producer for CBC Music (4 years) on many projects including The Tragically Hip’s Kingston concert. Kerry is currently a music content specialist, and Canadian music editor with several streaming services across Canada. For the last four years, he has been a jury member for the East Coast Music Awards.
Kerry attributes his interest on the topic of music and memory (especially as it affects older adults) to the experience of his own grandmothers, both who battled with dementia, as well as to the work of his mother, a recreational therapist in long term care settings.
It is a great pleasure to welcome The Dementia Society to this year’s Celebration as our featured not-for-profit, charitable organization. If able, we invite you to make a small cash donation ($2-$5) while at the show. At the end of the day, we will tally your contributions and Age Well Solutions will happily match them up to an additional $1,000.00!
This is our chance to make a difference…together.
